VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - July 6, 2016) - North American Nickel Inc. (TSX VENTURE:NAN)(OTCBB:WSCRF)(CUSIP:65704T 108) (the "Company" or "NAN") is pleased to provide an update on the planned 2016 exploration project at its 100% owned Maniitsoq nickel-copper-cobalt-PGM project in Southwest Greenland.
The Company's key objective this year is to carry out follow-up drilling at multiple mineralized targets in order to determine if one or more zones have the potential to warrant delineation drilling. Concurrently, the Company will be continuing the systematic exploration of the district scale Maniitsoq property and advancing corporate social responsibility and infrastructure-related activities.
The 2016 exploration program comprises approximately 10,000 metres of diamond drilling, surface and borehole geophysics, mapping, sampling, prospecting, structural geological studies and 3D modeling.
A key component of the Company's evolving exploration strategy is the integration of conventional geophysical tools with new complementary targeting tools. At the prospect scale, structural studies, detailed mapping and 3D modeling are being integrated with borehole and surface geophysical data in order to enhance drill hole targeting. At the regional scale, the new Worldview satellite imagery and lithogeochemical data are being integrated with airborne and surface geophysical data in order to define the extents of prospective norite stratigraphy and prioritize exploration targets for potential drill testing.
Work contracts have been awarded to Boart Longyear Drilling and Crone Geophysics and Exploration Ltd., both of Mississauga, Ontario, and to Insight Geophysics Inc. of Oakville, Ontario. Logistical support contracts have been awarded to Xploration Services Greenland A/S and Air Greenland A/S, both of Nuuk, Greenland.
Equipment and work crews mobilized to site in late June and exploration activities including drilling are now underway. The field program is expected to be extended to early September.
About North American Nickel
North American Nickel is a mineral exploration company with 100% owned properties in Maniitsoq, Greenland and Sudbury, Ontario.
The Maniitsoq property in Greenland is a Camp scale project comprising 2,985 square km covering numerous high-grade nickel-copper sulphide occurrences associated with norite and other mafic-ultramafic intrusions of the Greenland Norite Belt (GNB). The >75km-long belt is situated along, and near, the southwest coast of Greenland accessible from the existing Seqi deep water port (See NAN News Release dated January 19, 2015) with an all year round shipping season and abundant hydro-electric potential.
The Post Creek/Halcyon property in Sudbury is strategically located adjacent to the past producing Podolsky copper-nickel-platinum group metal deposit of KGHM International Ltd. The property lies along the extension of the Whistle Offset dyke structure. Such geological structures host major Ni-Cu-PGM deposits and producing mines within the Sudbury Camp.
